Denver Zoo Animal Hospital & Small Projects, Denver, CO
We are currently engaged at the Denver Zoo for the planning, design, and construction of multiple projects as part of their phase one master plan improvements program, which includes a new animal hospital, a 4D theater, and several deferred maintenance projects. The animal hospital today allows the Zoo to provide quality care, but lacks integration of current medical technologies and does not represent the level of leadership the Zoo is regarded for in other aspects of operations and facilities. The Animal Hospital is the result of several building and remodeling efforts that have taken place between 1969 and the present. The heart of the Animal Hospital will contain animal treatment rooms, critical care units, a surgery suite, and a laboratory and pharmacy where technological advances in veterinary care will be supported with state-of-the-art equipment. The Hospital will have digital radiography equipment, ultrasonography, and endoscopy units, as well as advanced anesthesia monitoring. It will also include a CT scanner, which is present in only one or two zoos in the country. The facilities will provide increased opportunities for research, collaboration, and teaching, as well as showcase the Zoo’s exceptional veterinary care program through interpretation, educational programs, and tours. During construction, a temporary animal hospital will be utilized to serve the animals, and many animals will be treated within their enclosures. Project One Cumming is currently providing project management services.
